Italian Lessons in Bristol

I run Italian language and culture courses for Bristol City Council, in person, so a good part of my teaching week already happens here. My name is Marika — born in Sicily, in the UK since 2012, and Italian is my first language as well as my subject. Everything else I teach is online, so learning Italian in Bristol needn’t mean crossing the city at rush hour: a student in Clifton, Bishopston or Southville logs on at the same time as one in Totterdown or Fishponds.

What actually happens in a lesson

I write my own materials rather than using a generic textbook, so the hour follows what you want to say. Grammar gets explained clearly, once, and then you use it. Two university degrees, a certification in teaching Italian to foreigners, eight years at Stroud College, four at a college in Swindon and two at the English Military Academy sit behind that.

A school can print a timetable; it cannot tell you who will be in the room in week three. With me, the person who answers your first message teaches every lesson. If you would rather have a person than an app, that is what an Italian tutor in Bristol looks like.

What lessons cost in Bristol

One-to-one lessons are £30 an hour, or £40 for two people learning together — useful if you and your partner are heading to Italy. Group course prices vary by level and are listed on the courses page. The Bristol City Council courses are booked through the Council; everything else you book directly with me.
